War Memorials

Powers to provide facilities

Parish councils have powers to provide some facilities themselves, or they can contribute towards their provision by others.

  • Maintenance of war memorial

Galleywood Parish Council maintains the publicaly funded War Memorial in the Grounds of the Keene Hall, Watchouse Road

The memorial records the names of those that lived in Galleywood and fell in both world wars and subsequent conflicts, lest we forget their sacrifice.

The names of all the fallen are also remembered as individual street names in the Beauleigh Development in North Chelmsford.

Each year on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11.00am the Parish Council holds a memorial service to honour their memory at the memorial.

In 2018 the Parish Council installed a specially commissioned memorial bench to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Great War Armistice
